Our Business Barometer reports provide invaluable monitoring and planning information for a destination, area councils, local government and its partners as well as businesses; the Business Confidence Monitor helps all of them understand how performance is in their area. The reports also indicate the way in which tourism performance differs depending on the season and provides a view on business confidence looking forward.
The information we collect asks businesses to assess performance each quarter and indicate how they see business performing in the coming months. We monitor trends across a range of metrics including:
- Customer numbers and turnover
- Levels of business investment
- Overheads and other costs
- Barriers to growth
- Perceptions of local and national agencies
- Business confidence
- Customer demographics

Further Business Confidence Monitors have recently been conducted in many areas of Scotland, including Dumfries & Galloway, Inverclyde and Fife.
In addition, to our Business Confidence Monitors we also deliver specific sector Business-to-Business (B2B) studies. We have extensive experience setting up and implementing rigorous tracking and performance monitoring studies among tourism businesses, including attractions and accommodation providers.
