Industry Insight
Accommodation providers we surveyed shared the following comments about factors that affected April’s business. As it is apparent from the comments, there were various factors that impacted on accommodation business in the region this month. The most prominent ones were poor weather, early Easter holidays as well as diverse events being held in the region.

“Again weather has been an issue for visitor numbers.”

“Easter being too early and weather being awful!”

“Easter was too early and weather was too cold and wet.”

Better than we thought considering Easter was in March.

“Easter bookings were o.k., but we had some cancellations due to bad weather. Traditional music weekend in Moffat  gave us some extra business.”

“Last month we had a slight increase on occupancy from same period last year, with improvement on both midweek and weekend, helped by some strong events at The Buccleuch Centre and 2 weddings in the town.  April has been our best period so far 2016.”

“April 2016 was a good month for us with guests who were all new clients”

“We took in contractors at a reduced price to fill our rooms from Monday to Friday as it was so quiet otherwise.”
